We produce a wide range of products for the pharmaceutical packaging industry. The majority of products can be divided into three categories; trays, Push-Through-Packs and clamshells. Finished products include: sterile barrier systems for implantable medical devices, surgical kit trays, unit dose packaging, work in process (WIP) trays and point of purchase packaging. Through the use of WIP trays and blister packs, and combination product packaging, Macro Plastic is able to provide customers with top of the line packaging for their product.
Push-Through Packs (PTP) / Blister Packs
Push-Through Packs (PTP) is a broad area in the thermoformed packaging industry, however, when considering pharmaceutical packaging, a push-through package would most likely be a pill pack or usage dose package. This thermoformed package allows for multiple doses of a medication to be housed in one package, with foil or some form of closure feature on top. A package of this type allows the consumer easy access to just one pill or dosage, while being able to purchase many at a time. Research verifies that unit dose pharmaceutical packages increase the compliance rate of patients taking their medication, versus traditional bulk packaging in a bottle.
Push-Through Packs are created by means of a form-fill-seal process. A form-fill-seal process means that the pack is created from rolls of flat film/sheet, filled with the pharmaceutical product and closed (sealed) on the same equipment. Such equipment is called a blisterline.
Push-Through-Packs are one of our primary pharmaceutical manufactures at Macro Plastic. The benefits these PVC made packs offer are:
- Assurance of product/packaging integrity
- Tamper resistance
- Increased shelf life
- Convenience and ease of use
- Variety of colours to choose from
- 0.2 – 0.5 mm thickness
WIP Trays
WIP trays are used as a safe method of internally transferring pharmaceutical or device components from one manufacturing work cell/site to another. Most of the WIP trays are utilized in automated equipment and the ability to design and produce high tolerance thermoformed parts is critical.
Materials Used
Macro Plastic utilizes various materials in the pharmaceutical thermoforming process. All of these materials including PET-G (PETG/ PET G) film are Medical Grade and comply with FDA requirements.
